Ever since Apple ditched Intel in its in-house Mac chips, the Californian giant has encouraged all macOS developers to natively support its new chips. For the user, this optimizes performance through code that becomes more stable and unsurprisingly more efficient on the CPU.
WhatsApp Desktop soon native support for M1/M2 chips
For the first time, WhatsApp releases a new beta version of its application on macOS which integrates support native Apple’s silicon, for some Mac users.
WhatsApp followers who are enrolled in the beta program can install now the latest version on their Mac from the TestFlight application, the place where you find all the betas of your favorite apps.
A native version of WhatsApp for Mac has not been released on Apple’s siliconized Macs since 2020, due to Rosetta 2’s ability to run the Intel-based Electron version. On computers with M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra and M2 chips, WhatsApp will soon work longer rapidly and consume fewer resources.
As noted by the WABetaInfo site, some modifications are also to be found in this beta on TestFlight. There is a major change in interfacethe instant messaging app has added a sidebar to the left of the screen for users to get smart access to chats, calls, archived messages, important messages, and settings.
We find in this update a “Mac” spirit that we had never seen before in WhatsApp which had always made the choice to resume a identical design to the iOS app.
For the moment, there is no official date for the launch of this native version with the M1 chip. However, when we compare to some betas organized by WhatsApp in the past, we know that these can last sometimes Several weeks before going live for all users.
Note that before arriving at beta status, the WhatsApp teams who work daily on Mac tested this new version for almost 1 full month. Which means that there must have been a mass of bugs and instability that have been reported, which would perhaps allow to speed up the current beta phase.
