The second pizza distributor no longer worries the pizza makers of Place Saint-Vigor in Athis

A large company based in Lisieux, in Calvados, has launched a major campaign to install pizza distributors in the far west.

She just an add one on private parking of the former Shopi store, of Athis-de-l’Orne, delegated municipality of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre, near Flers, in the Orne.

Virginie Morel and Julien Dromert, owners of Pizz’Athis, on Place Saint-Vigor d’Athis, were very surprised to discover a second pizza distributor in the town, 500 meters from theirs.

Not aware of the project

“We were not aware of the project of this industrial company which is installing distributors in the municipalities of the region”, breathes Virginie Morel.

Indeed, pizza distributors from this Lexovian company have just been put into service in Condé-sur-Noireau, Ger, Chanu, Saint-Clair-de-Halouze and Pont-d’Ouilly.

“We had a drop in clientele at the start when the one in Pont-d’Ouilly was operational. But it quickly returned to normal after two weeks,” adds the young shopkeeper.

Not the same products

“We don’t offer the same products. This big company is frozen, unlike us who make homemade pizzas. We make ours daily with local products, not them. We are not going to look for the same clientele! adds Julien Dromert.

In terms of prices, the big companies have the means to negotiate the prices of raw materials, but they are still frozen products.

“We have been here for two years. The image we have worked on is that we are not just a distributor.

We do a lot of work behind it. Our pizzas are made on site and we supply our distributor ourselves, it’s not a truck that comes by to recharge and remove the expired ones after 48 hours,” insists Julien.

Local traders first

The young couple is reassured today since the installation of this distributor in the town.

“We are seen as pizzaiolos, but we are local merchants first. When we see the result today, we see that we did a good job. We are not afraid of this society where the only risk is that people confuse.

There are two distributors, but they have nothing to do with each other. We do a lot of sales on Sunday evenings after 10 p.m.

With us, it’s homemade pizzas and it will remain so. Even if it is slightly more expensive, the quality of the products is much higher! concludes Julien Dromert.

Customers support local commerce

Many customers support the young couple and say that it is not normal to have such competition in the municipality, but it is the law of competition. It’s up to customers to judge what they want to taste.

Since its installation, the Pizz’Athis company has been heavily involved in local life. In particular by linking a partnership on the sale of pizzas for a determined period of time for the benefit of the CCJV association (Against cancer: I’m going!).
