Ricky Martin: accused of domestic violence and incest, the singer faces 50 years in prison

Accused of domestic violence earlier this month, Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin is now accused of incest on his nephew. Until now, the identity of the alleged victim had remained unknown, but it was revealed by the singer’s own brother this week, report en masse the American and Latino media.

It’s a shock for the music world and especially for all fans of Latin singer Ricky Martin. The Puerto Rican star, best known for his hit “un, dos, tres Maria”, is accused by his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, of incest and physical and psychological violence. Charges strongly condemned in Puerto Rico, where the accused risks receiving a heavy sentence, which can go up to fifty years in prison.

Until now, the name of the supposed victim had remained secret. The singer’s brother, however, revealed on Wednesday that the plaintiff was none other than Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, Ricky Martin’s nephew.

According to Marca magazine and the TMZ site, Ricky Martin would have started an affair with his 21-year-old nephew that would have lasted seven months. The singer would have “not received the break well” and would have continued to try to get in touch with him, while he was under a restraining order issued by the Puerto Rican authorities.

Accusations Denied Entirely

On his Twitter page, Ricky Martin denied these accusations. The singer, now 50, claims in particular that the protection order obtained by his nephew was based only “on lies”. The defense also says it wouldn’t be the first time Mr. Sanchez has “threatened to destroy lives.”

In a statement, the singer’s law firm said, “We are confident that when the true facts are revealed in this case, our client Ricky Martin will be fully acquitted.”

A trial is indeed scheduled and should start on July 21 with the testimony of Dennis Yadiel Sanchez.
