Fans of spaghetti, gnocchi or penne, you will be served. The Pasta Fest returns from May 11 to 24. For the occasion, 19 restaurants in Greater Montreal will offer a pasta dish created especially for the occasion.
For this third edition, the very first since the start of the pandemic, carbonara is in the spotlight. Participating restaurants will face off in a friendly competition around this delicacy from Rome. At the end of the 14 days of festivities, Italian chef and food blogger Mario Cioffi, traveling to Montreal for the very first time, will crown the winning dish.
Very popular, the carbonara requires only a few ingredients – eggs, pancetta and pecorino cheese – but its traditional recipe is often modified. We will have to see what the guest judge will think of it if we offer him a cream-based sauce instead!
The Pasta Fest was born in 2018 under the name of Pasta Week. The following year, the competitive component was added to the concept, as chefs were challenged to whip up pasta cacio and pepe. The name change came about when the event was extended to two weeks rather than one during the 2020 edition, which ultimately did not take place due to the health situation.
Food festivals are legion in the metropolis. Montrealers were also recently treated to the return of Happening Gourmand and PoutineFest.
The Pasta Fest is an opportunity to discover good tables specializing in Italian cuisine, such as Il Miglio, Fiorella, Quindici or Stellina. The complete list of participating restaurants is available on the Pasta Fest website.
