In October, Bastia will host the first international pizza competition

A few months ago, Paul Pierinelli and Stéphane Pileri set themselves a challenge: to organize the first international pizza competition in Bastia. A few months later, thanks to the know-how of the first in terms of events and the knowledge of the second in the world of Pizza, it’s done!

On October 14, 15 and 16, on the occasion of the Salon du chocolat on the Place Saint-Nicolas which welcomes more than 45,000 visitors each year, the first major competition will be held around this delicacy so appreciated all over the world. During these three days, the Pizze contest will take place, divided into 3 different categories. The first, the classic Pizza, will allow its winner to directly access the French Pizza Championship, but also to have his registration and his ticket taken care of for the World Championship which will take place in Parma. The second category “Teglia” is the one reserved for the Pizza in plate and will elect the best. The third category, and not the least, is that of making a… Pizza dessert! In collaboration with the president of the association of pizza makers in France, Julien Panet, the two founders of the competition created the first French Championship in this category. “As the competition is part of the chocolate fair, it seemed obvious to make a sweet pizza”, explains Stéphane Pileri, president of the competition. Finally, island pizzaioli will be able to take part in the Corsican Pizza Margherita championship. About forty professionals from all over the island have already registered for this competition.

A great enthusiasm

And entries are pouring in from around the world for the first Classic Pizza category. “From Italy, Morocco, Germany, Spain and even the United States we have a lot of requests”, rejoices Paul Pierinelli, organizer for 10 years of the chocolate fair. The two men did not imagine meeting such enthusiasm around the event. “It’s the beginning of a great story between Corsica and pizza, this competition will allow professionals from the island to meet other pizzaioli, to soak up their know-how, to help each other”, explains Stéphane Pileri who had himself been able to discuss with other pizza specialists during his participation last April in the World Championship.

A first “Italian village”

To honor the Pizza, Paul Pierinelli, decided to think big : “In addition to the usual space, we have created an Italian village where green, white and red gastronomy will be well represented. » There, visitors will travel through the flavors of Italy and will be able to obtain pesto, truffles, pasta, ham, parmesan, Modena vinegar… all to the rhythm of musicians who have come straight from the other side of the Mediterranean. “It will be a great moment of sharing”, ensures the organizer. For a first edition, the two founders think big, but hope that “this event becomes a reference in Corsica. »
