filming of Lady in the Lake halts due to threats

After the launch of Apple TV+, as part of its business expansion into services, Apple became a competitor to Netflix. And moreover, the Cupertino company also orders original content to fill the catalog of its SVOD.

And among the series ordered by Apple TV+ in 2021, there is Lady in the Lake. Among the actresses, there are Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong’o.

“‘Lady in the Lake’ is an adaptation of Laura Lippman’s New York Times bestseller of the same name. The limited series is set in 1960s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder causes housewife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to reinvent her life as an investigative reporter and sets her on a collision course with Cleo Sherwood ( Nyong’o), a hard-working, active woman juggling motherhood, multiple jobs, and a passionate commitment to advancing Baltimore’s progressive black agenda”, reads Apple’s announcement, published last year. Filming began in April 2022 and is expected to continue this fall.

Unfortunately, as reported in an article by Variety, the filming of the series had to be suspended due to threats received by the film crew. According to the American media, Baltimore police confirm that a group of people contacted the producers while they were filming on Park Avenue in the city center.

This group reportedly threatened to come back and shoot someone if the production didn’t stop. They also reportedly asked the crew to pay $50,000 so filming could resume.

The threat was taken seriously. And those responsible for the series have decided to reschedule the filming, and to find another location. It is unknown if they have already resumed at the time of this writing.

As a reminder, Apple made a “straight to series” order, which means that a driver was not necessary to validate this series. – Official App
