The Disney+ application on the Apple TV finally offers support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio with the AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and also with the HomePods (when connected in audio output by default). Until now, the app only provided 5.1, meaning we had big sound but not the enveloping effects or the immersive experience of spatial audio, which was a bug since Dolby Atmos is supposed to integrate this function.

According FlatpanelsHD, this quirk was an issue with the app-specific video player. Only the Apple TV was concerned, on other Dolby Atmos compatible devices, the sound came out well in spatial audio. Disney+ corrected the situation with version 2.9.5 of its application. After a quick test before / after, we do indeed feel a difference with a pair of large HomePods.
On the other hand, version 2.9.1 of the same application for Android TV and Google TV “breaks” the Dolby Atmos which no longer works on many devices equipped with Google platforms. A bug that will surely be fixed soon enough.
