Apple expected to expand iPhone 14 satellite feature to more countries by year end

On September 7, Apple unveiled its new Satellite Emergency function during a keynote conducted at full speed and largely dedicated – it must be recognized – to security.

Gradual deployment from 2022

The latter should be launched in november in the United States and Canada, but it looks like Apple is planning toexpand functionality to other countries over time. This deployment would take place in many stages but would start before the end of the year ! For the moment, the Californian firm has not communicated any timetable.

Still hiding some mysteries, the satellite function can be used whenever the user is out of Wi-Fi range or out of cellular connection. She will also be restricted to send a short, urgent text message.

According to Apple, the maneuver should take about 15 seconds, and allow the emergency services to locate the victim in real time. During the keynote, the firm clarified that the system was designed to be used in open spaces with a clear line of sight to the sky. Apparently, there would be some fluctuations in the presence of trees / overly lush vegetation or nearby buildings (what about rocks and other granite blocks?).

Note that the iPhone will offer a quick MCQ with vital questions to assess the situation and the state of health. He should send this information to emergency personnel as soon as possible. This feature will be launched next November (2 years will be offered, you will probably have to get your hands on the wallet afterwards) and for the moment, only in the US and Canada.
